Check back for Kyle's deubut single, "My Love"!
Kyle Zayas is the black sheep of his environment. Growing up on the Northeast side of Philadelphia, he swam in the ocean of the of heavy-hitting 808’s and ear-throttling punchlines that Hip-Hop has saturated into his neighborhood throughout his lifetime. His resilience, however, and focus on family, and comfort helped Kyle derive his own sound outside of Hip-Hop despite its influence in his hometown. Living with his twin sister, two older brothers, and his parents, art was always a prominent aspect of the Zayas household. From Kyle’s older brother illustrating, his twin sister aspiring to be an author, or even his mother pursuing a record deal. The Zayas’ are no strangers to the art.
Kyle’s music career began at a very young age, he discovered the gift of his voice whilst singing on his church’s choir growing up. Kyle spent his middle school years going through a personality gaging identity crisis that forced him to question what he wanted to do in life. While his classmates talked of dreams of being doctors, and vets and pilots, Kyle was silent, not sure where exactly he’d find himself in the future. It wasn’t until a youth trip at Disney World when Kyle finally realized what he wanted to spend his life chasing after. During this trip, Kyle found himself indulging in the Digital Age’s rendition of “All The Poor and Powerless.” Something about the beauty in the band’s harmony, the sundry of the sounds, and the overall collage the song created as each element came together, moved Kyle. He then realized that his passion was in front of him all along.
During Kyle’s freshman year of high school, he began taking guitar lessons at his school. He spent that year dragging himself and his guitar around the halls, quietly embracing the awkward stares and eerie murmurs his peers gave. All to open the classroom door to an ill-prepared instructor who quite obviously pulled every lesson from the bottom of the barrel. Shortly after Zayas’ freshman year, his guitar instructor quits. Already frustrated with how poorly the curriculum was executed, and even more upset because he left the class with the same amount of knowledge he had prior. Finally, to make matters worse, when the teacher was replaced, the new instructor was bombarded with new students, and couldn’t make space in his schedule for Kyle. Kyle was left with a burning passion that felt impossible to fuel. With no teacher or music program, young Kyle Zayas was sad and almost hopeless. It wasn’t until he decided to take matters into his own hands. One night, he opened his laptop, went onto Youtube, and began searching away. Kyle knew the only way he’d be able to fuel the flame inside of him was is if he ignited it himself. He began watching different Youtubers play guitar, and mimicked their fingering in order to affectively copy the sound. Once Kyle perfected this, he began creating his own melodies and sounds. This enabled him to develop the perfect marriage between his voice as an instrument, and his guitar.
Now, Kyle shares his music with friends, family, and peers. He’s mastered the art of playing his guitar live and pairing it with his voice in order to create the perfect coupling. He’s delivered astounding performances, including one at Lion Records Live in 2019. Kyle Zayas is currently an avid member of Albright’s choir and Commercial Music Ensemble. In his personal artistry, Kyle focuses on delivering a comforting sound that not only captivates the audience but makes them feel at home.
