CHECK OUT KID KAZAMA 2 ON APPLE MUSIC AND SPOTIFY
Born and raised in Northside, Delaware, Joshua Gunter, better known as JRell302, started his career at a young age. As a kid, Josh moved around quite a bit, making it difficult for him to form genuine bonds and relationships. When he was 12 years old, his family settled down back in Northside, where his musical journey began. He went to Skyline Middle School, and while he had a passion for learning, school was not always his favorite place to be. Bullies constantly picked on him about what was going on in his personal life, such as his medical conditions or his appearance. Because of this, Josh found it hard to focus on school and came home, looking for things to keep his mind occupied. He discovered that video games and music could fill his hole that the bullies had placed in his heart. He was drawn to rap music, listening to Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar, who inspired him to pursue his music career. After moving up to high school, Josh began to make beats and lyrics at 16. He found himself coming home from school every day, running to his room to work on his latest songs. He made some singles, such as “I Killed YOU Bruh” and “Lonersville.” After creating his singles, Josh began working with others and started making features on other artists’ albums and singles. While Josh was excited that this was all happening, he knew that there was more waiting for him at the end of the road.
After some time, Josh began production of his first album, Kid Kazama 2. He based the album and the name around his favorite video game character, Jin Kazama, helping reinforce his brand. Josh started to build his own brand and identity in the name alone, expressing his love for video games. Through his album, Josh conveyed his ideas of childhood and nostalgia to his fans, trying to make his music more playful and youthful to appeal to an audience similar to him. Josh’s brand grew with him as he also began to grow as an artist, with the main idea of keeping it simple and wanting to easily relate to his fans. Josh wanted his brand to be focused on the fact that he was just a kid from Delaware that made music to make people feel nostalgic and remember what it was like to be a kid. Not only did Josh create music for others, but he also created it for himself. He found that music took him to a place that he had never seen or explored before, allowing him to free his mind of worry and concern that often came up in his daily life, such as his financial problems or struggling with friends. As a growing artist, Josh wants to connect with his fans as much as possible. While much of his music is created to be entertaining and catchy, he also wants his music to have meaning to it. He wants his fans to dig deeper into the lyrics and emotion behind his songs, showing them his scars from the past, inspiring him to make meaningful connections with his fan base, and helping him grow as an artist.
